Thomas Powell

Web design, infrastructure and management

Thomas Powell has been involved in the Internet community as a professional since 1987. His career began with network support at UCLA's PICnet, followed by several years at CERFnet. After leaving CERFnet in January 1994 he started PINT (www.pint.com), a firm based in San Diego specializing in advanced Internet technology and Web site design. At the same time, he founded Datanet one of the largest Internet Service Providers in Mexico, which was since sold to PSINet in mid-1999. Powell is also co-founder of wireless Web solutions vendor Dokoni (www.dokoni.com).

Powell is the author of three books: HTML: The Complete Reference, Web Site Engineering: Beyond Web Page Design, and the HTML Programmer's Reference. His upcoming book Web Design: The Complete Reference will be published April 2000 by Osborne McGraw-Hill.

Powell has also been giving public presentations about the Internet since 1993. He has spoken about Web standards, Internet commerce and Web site design and implementation at local users group meetings and major national trade shows alike since then.

Powell teaches Web design and programming classes for the Computer Science Department of University of California, San Diego (UCSD), as well as the UCSD Extension. Powell holds a BS in Math Applied Science from UCLA and an MS in Computer Science from UCSD.
