What a delicious rumor. Google is building its own routers because it's unhappy with Juniper's products, according to a blog in SD Times. Blogger Alex Handy cites "multiple sources, including one inside Cisco".

Cisco warns of GSS DNS vulnerability

Cisco is warning of a security hole in its Cisco Application Control Engine Global Site Selector (GSS) that could lead to a crash of the engine's DNS service. The crash could happen when processing specific DNS requests, according to Cisco in its security advisory. Cisco has published updates and workarounds to mitigate this vulnerability.

Cisco: Consumer business to be worth $10 billion in 5 years

Cisco CEO John Chambers reiterated his company's aggressive push into the consumer space, saying that the market would be worth $10 billion to Cisco in 5 years. Speaking at a press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas Tuesday, Chambers said Cisco would roll out new products every two months into this space, and would make new acquisitions.

Cisco moves to clear up misunderstanding over third-party VPN support

Recently, some network engineers slammed Cisco for what appeared to be a statement that it would no longer support third-party IPsec VPNs. Cisco has since republished all its documentation to state that it does support non-Cisco VPNs.

A text in the Cisco Security Appliance Command Line Configuration Guide originally read: "Because we adhere to VPN industry standards, ASAs may work with other vendors' peers in LAN-to-LAN VPNs; however, we do not support them."

Cisco offers free iPhone app to tune into WebEx meetings

Cisco is providing a free iPhone application that enables iPhone 3G users to attend WebEx meetings via their Apple mobile devices. Cisco says the Cisco WebEx Meeting Center application lets users view what's being shared, see the meeting participant list, see the active speaker and chat with other meeting participants.

Is VoIP dead? That's the debate going on in the blogosphere among some VoIP experts. Systems consultant and telecoms author Ted Wallingford points to comments by other VoIP experts declaring VoIP's passing, suggesting that VoIP is now just 'plumbing' and that it's "not the exciting thing it used to be."

Juniper: the big winner if Nortel goes under?
