Good news / Bad news

For years we've all tested our sites to work in MSIE, Firefox and Safari. Now we may very well need to start testing in a a variety of devices running other browsers... Oh boy.

This is old news, very old news, how long have Opera Mobile and Opera mini been around? Nothing is new from mobile phone providers - I hope they all burn in hell.

What about the content adaptation services?

You fail to even mention the fact that there are also companies in the mobile space providing "content adaptation and transcoding" services to WAP and xHTML web browsers. This is done at the gateway servers, not as clients on the devices. There are several relevant companies: Openwave's OpenWeb (on Sprint), InfoGin (on some Verizon devices), Novarra, and others. You should do a follow-up article comparing these companies offerings, as they have some relevance until the whole world owns an iPhone.
