It's all about control

When governmen's are unable to adapt, to change with the times, they act to try and shore up their power. Right now, the target is a website that allows data to be shared between people, some of which might infringe copyright, but also some that doesn't.

The question is, at what point is the alleged infringement of copyright not enough to outweigh free speech and materials critical of the government?

Sweden is, like Italy, an EU member. Sweden is, like Italy, looking at charges for Sunde et al. Sweden has a two year head start, and the case there doesn't look very good. However, the most questionable part is the issue of the judge's identity. We are not talking national security, but restriction of speech. Perhaps the lack of identity, or indeed honesty and transparancy, is because there is something to hide. Something that would otherwise invalidate the case, and I can't be the only one to smell the stench of corruption.

I urge all that oppose these fundemental abuses of the law, in Italy, and elsewhere, to let your elected representatives know how unhappy you are with this, or better yet support an alternative - your local Pirate Party. You can find them at http://www.pp-international.net
