Cisco execs deny directing Patent Troll Tracker blog

Cisco exec pops up as a strategic advisor to SaaS start-up08/19/08

Yesterday we noted that Chirag Mehta, an exec working at SAP blogged that he believed that Cisco's virtualization efforts could eventually lead it to becoming a software-as-a-service player - even buying up a couple of key SaaS players. Cisco security expert and Cisco Subnet blogger Jamey Heary has returned from Black Hat with lots of network security tips to share. Read Jamey's posting about the best way to defend against SSL VPN vulnerabilities. He writes: "Blackhat '08 disclosed several SSLVPN and DNS vulnerabilities that caused several people to sit up and take notice. Why Cisco could have SaaS in its sights08/18/08

It appears that bloggers are writing more about Cisco and cloud computing than Cisco itself is. He also believes that Cisco could aquire a couple of key SaaS players to offer network-managed services.

CXtec bounces back after losing Cisco refurb vendor status08/18/08

Networking reseller CXtec says it is bouncing back after cutting 45 staff in July following the loss of its Cisco partnership last fall, reports The Central New York Business Journal. The company was apparently the only authorized reseller to sell refurbished Cisco equipment under its "equal2new" program but CXtec lost that status when Cisco moved to a standard indirect channel strategy. The deal with Cisco began in 2001 and sales of those products eventually grew to about a quarter of CXtec's business, reports CNYBJ.

Cisco spent $300,000 in Q2 to lobby gov't on patent reform and other efforts08/15/08

$300,000 was the amount that Cisco parted with in Q2 to lobby legislators on patent  reform, trade measures and efforts to crack down on cybercrime, reports the Associated Press. The money was also spent getting across its views on network neutrality, and efforts to spread broadband connections. Cisco also lobbied on a bill that would make it illegal for U.S. online content providers to hand over users' personal information to governments that restrict Web access.

Cisco jumps aboard Cable & Wireless' MPLS network08/14/08

When big customers like AT&T cut back on their capital expenditure, their suppliers - such as Cisco - get a headache. Such is life when a big corporation contributes a large slice of Cisco's revenue. But for other vendors Cisco itself is that large customer that contributes a large slice of their sales. Take Cable & Wireless which two years ago cut its ties to the consumer world so that it could focus on a few large customers - including Cisco. The networking giant became one of C&W's first customers to sign up for its planned-MPLS network that will cover the Middle East, reports ITPro.
